Gatehouse School believes strongly in encouraging an interest, understanding and above all a passion in all approaches to music.
Each week every class in the school from Nursery to Year 6 is taught in our dedicated music room with access to a wide variety of instruments, recording equipment and musical resources.
At Gatehouse School the children are taught music through units of work based on the concepts of listening, performing and composing. Children are able to develop team-working skills by participating in group composing activities, and enhance their note-reading skills when playing on the keyboard or tuned percussions. Children in Years 3 and 4 also take part in whole-class ukulele lessons.
Our pupils frequently enjoy concerts and workshops run by professional musicians from, amongst others, the LSO, the London Arts Orchestra and Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service.
Here at Gatehouse School we are extremely proud of our range of extra-curricular musical ensembles for our children to be a part of. These include Years 3 – 6 Mixed Senior Choir, Mixed Chamber Choir, School Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Brass & Wind Ensembles and West African Drumming Group.
Our termly music concerts are important celebrations of the talent within the school, which also showcase the variety of choral and orchestral ensembles we are proud to have at Gatehouse School.
