At Gatehouse School we encourage children to support, work and have fun with their peers from other classes as well as foster a healthy attitude towards competition. This is exemplified by the rationale behind our School House system. Pupils at Gatehouse School actively participate with each other; our older pupils supervise and take care of the younger pupils to foster and promote friendships throughout Gatehouse.
There are four school Houses; Dragon, Phoenix, Sphinx and Unicorn. Each child is allocated a House when he or she joins the school. Throughout the year each house will meet to discuss their thoughts on key issues in the school, organise charity events and support each other in a wide variety of annual events, for instance, swimming galas, Art competitions, Sports’ Day, Poetry reading, talent competitions and Maths quizzes.
Each house has its own house colour:
Dragon | Red |
Phoenix | Green |
Sphinx | Yellow |
Unicorn | Blue |
For sporting events children are expected to wear their house polo shirts.
Year 6 pupils are voted in as house captains and have responsibility for organising and supporting each event. All competitions, whether academic, sporting or cultural contribute house points which go towards the house shield. Gatehouse pupils may be awarded house points through, Assembly music players, Mathletics, Science Projects, Poetry Competitions, Art Competitions, French Poetry Competition, World Book Day Dress Up Assembly, Talent Shows, to name a few!
Any individual pupil may also be awarded house points in the form of a token. This is a reward for anything from an outstanding piece of work to being kind to another pupil. It is acting in a manner befitting a Gatehouse pupil.
At the end of the year the house with the highest amount of points will be awarded the house shield.
