Gatehouse is very proud to regard Music as a very high-profile subject in the school. Every child in the school receives a class Music lesson once a week, and children also have the opportunity to be part of the many musical clubs and activities on offer at the school: choirs, orchestras, ukulele groups and brass ensembles to name but a few. All of these are run by the Head of Music and a talented team of peripatetic instrumental teachers.
Gatehouse highly values performance, and every child has the opportunity to do so several times a year. This could be though performing in the nativity in Nursery, singing in one of the many Christmas Concerts, performing an instrumental solo in assembly, acting in the Year 3 or 6 musical, or being part of our termly ensemble and choral concerts.
Gatehouse offers a wide range of musical tuition taught throughout the school day by specialist teachers.

Individual lessons are 30 minutes long and will usually be scheduled once per week. Lessons take place during the school day. These are arranged on a rota basis to ensure that pupils do not miss the same lesson twice in a row.
Pupils who learn a musical instrument in school also have the opportunity to sit ABRSM Grade Exams at Gatehouse. These optional exams take place termly.
The School will arrange an introduction with an appropriate Music Teacher. They will advise you of the cost and the relevant Terms and Conditions that apply. Payment for music lessons is made directly to the Music Teacher concerned. In most cases music lessons are invoiced in blocks of ten sessions for each term although this may vary at the discretion of the individual teacher.
Should you wish to stop individual music lessons, a half-term’s notice in writing is required.
