At Gatehouse our PSHE programme enables children to become healthier, to increase their independence and to become responsible members of society by understanding both themselves and others. We encourage our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school and the wider community; values which are central to our Gatehouse School ethos. In so doing our pupils recognise their own worth developing their self-esteem, work with others collaboratively and become increasingly responsible for their own learning.
It is our intention that pupils will reflect upon their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral and cultural issues that are part of growing up and developing their well-being.
We teach our pupils at Gatehouse School how society is organised and governed and how our pupils can positively contribute. We ensure that the pupils experience the process of democracy through participation in the School Council.
Our pupils learn about their rights and responsibilities as well as learning to appreciate what it means to be a positive member of the diverse and multicultural society in which they live.
At Gatehouse we encourage respect for humanity, diversity and differences in order that pupils may go on to form effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of everyday life and learning.
